2010 November Gratefuls – Part 2

“…when gratitude fills our hearts, there is no room for unhappiness. Happiness… does not depend on obtaining all the desires of our hearts. In large measure, happiness depends on our ability to feel gratitude for the abundance we already have.” ~ Carolyn Wright

Thanksgiving Daily

We change our hearts when we live in gratitude. We become joyful, happy people. Why focus on what’s not right? Has that helped you get what you want? Try instead to focus on what is right, what you’re grateful for and the rest will come together. God can make good of anything. I know He can because I see it all the time in my own life and in others’ lives. Start by making a gratitude journal and write a few things (or more!) that you are thankful for. It could be the air you breathe or the pencil you’re writing with. Do this regularly, and see how your heart, mind, and circumstances seem to change because our perspectives change. I promise it works! Try it!

Psalms 23

I love this Psalm. It’s been on my mind today, and I felt impressed to share it. Enjoy!

PSALMS 23
A Psalm of David

1 The Lord is my shepherd; I
shall not want.

2 He maketh me to lie down
in green pastures: he leadeth
me beside the still waters.

3 He restoreth my soul: he
leadeth me in the paths of
righteousness for his name’s
sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through
the valley of the shadow of
death, I will fear no evil: for
thou art with me; thy rod and
thy staff they comfort me.

5 Thou preparest a table
before me in the presence
of mine enemies: thou
anointest my head with oil; my
cup runneth over.

6 Surely goodness and mercy
shall follow me all the days of
my life: and I will dwell in the
house of the Lord for ever.

I also love Temple Passmore’s rendition of Psalms 23. You can buy the recorded version here.

2010 November Gratefuls – Part 1

What better way to celebrate this season of gratitude than to post something daily that I’m grateful for. These are from my Facebook status’ so far this month:

  • November 4: I’m grateful for my home…and that the neighbors a couple of streets over didn’t lose their home to the fire they had this morning
It’s gorgeous outside! I’m so grateful for the sunshine today!; I’m grateful for my children’s laughter!

  • November 8: I’m grateful for the rain today! The falling fall leaves and water remind me of Connecticut! Miss that place!
I’m grateful for warm herbal tea on a cold day. My 11yo made some licorice root tea for my family since we’ve had colds…and I didn’t have to ask her, and she remembered all on her own that licorice root could help!
  • November 9: I’m grateful for my persistent child who just wanted me to help her sew a bag today!
  • November 10: I’m grateful to be caught up on laundry again, and have children with the ability to help with it! Oh, and it’s day 10 of my oldest doing all the dishes.
  • November 11: I’m so grateful for the noble sacrifice of the many men and women serving under arms to help me enjoy the freedoms we have this Veteran’s Day.
  • November 12: I’m so grateful for date nights!!! A time to spend one on one time together and nurture our relationship. What are you doing for date night tonight?
  • November 13: I’m grateful for the new shoes I bought today and that my feet seemed to have shrunk a half size these past few years. lol
  • November 14: I’m grateful for a wonderful Sabbath! I’m grateful for the opportunity to worship, renew covenants, and spend time with my family.
  • November 15: I’m grateful for my skills as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and homemaker. I’m also grateful for those that have taught me those skills and helped encourage me to improve them.

Honey Onion Cough Syrup

This recipe was given to my by my friend Randee several years ago. I’ve used it occasionally. The best way to get kids to take it is in something like herbal tea.

Honey Onion Cough Syrup

  • Onion
  • Olive Oil
  • Honey

Finely chop an onion and saute in olive oil.  Take off the heat and add enough honey to cover the onions.  Let sit for several hours.  Strain out onions (I use a fine strainer or cheesecloth) and put in a bottle.  You can make as much or as little as you need.  Make sure to label your jar so it’s not mistaken for honey! One of these days I’ll make myself some cute labels like these and actually use them. lol

Refrigerate after making.
