My Mother and Photo Challenge

Day 2: A picture of you and the person you have been close with for the longest.

My beautiful mother and I (1976). I’m the oldest of three children and the only girl. My mom and I were always good friends. She taught me most of my homemaking skills. She gave me a love of feminine things. I learned from her to keep a clean and orderly home, love girly things, cook, sew, crochet, cross-stitch, and take care of others. She made me want to be a mother.

Thank you mom for being my first teacher and for loving me into the person I am today!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Photo Challenge, Day 1

Several friends have been doing a 30-day challenge to share pictures and more about themselves…or something along the same lines. I really do like sharing pictures, and sometimes I have a hard time finding reasons to post. So, though I may not do this consistently for 30 days in a row, it is a great way to journal more about me. :)

Day 1: A picture of yourself with 10 facts

This is me, Brandi Palmer.

  • I love beautiful things especially anything pink, bright, airy, circular, ruffly, heart-shaped, swirly, flowery, and fun.
  • I enjoy making things with my hands: embroidery, sewing, crochet, scrapbooking, etc… Giving the gifts away is always a joy, so I rarely do something for myself. Perhaps I need to change that a little.
  • I am an amateur photographer and only pretend to know what I’m doing. I really enjoy birth photography and have attended two births as photographer. (Here’s one of them.)
  • I hate touching feet.  I don’t even like touching my own feet.  Baby feet are the only exception.
  • I am happy when my house is in order. I can be over the top when it comes to cleaning my house, though I’ve slackened in recent years since my children are learning to clean and they don’t have my skills. I chalk it up to my mom that I keep a clean house, because as a Type 1 energy type, I’d probably not care much otherwise.
  • I like to pretend that I’m a perfect organizer. I have dreams of owning lots of organizing helps to organize my house in, especially for my kitchen, closets and bookshelves.  I’ve been told…a lot… that I’m very organized, but I think everyone’s just fooled. j/k
  • I aspire to be a midwife, not a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) that works in a hosptial, but a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) that delivers babies at home. I love learning, reading, and discussing childbirth, though I know it’s not my time to be a midwife yet.
  • I love to sing!….just not in public by myself. I don’t mind singing solo in front of children, but adults are another story. I can belt a good alto and even some soprano. I’ve never been voice trained or had choir in school. Several people have told me they were surprised at that fact, but I’m glad I “sound” like I have the experience.
  • I love music, though the theory of music alludes me…okay, I just haven’t studied it. I taught myself to play the piano in my teen years and have played ever since. I’ve played the flute for 20+ years, and I hope to say that about the violin someday.
  • I’m imperfect…there, I said it! I can’t keep up with all the things I need/want to get done, though I put on a good face about it. I do press forward most days knowing I’ll eventually get most of them done–laundry and dishes, on the other hand, is another story.

Why I love

Why I LOVE my baby boy:

His face is like a ray of sunshine.
He wants to be with me all the time.
He still loves to nurse and reconnect.
His babbles make me smile.
He depends on me, rain or shine.
He gives the best “lovies” in the world.
His laughter and smiles fill a room with joy.
He always gives more than he takes.
He is very laid back and mellow.
His curiosity is contagious.
He has the sweetest voice.
He loves me, unconditionally.

My first digital sctapbook page

I’m not creative in the scrapbooking arena…yet, but I had fun putting this together, as simple as it is. They say, “Practice makes perfect,” so I plan to practice here and there. Digital scrapping is much less expensive to do because you can reuse the digital elements, and printing is anywhere from $3-4 each depending on where you get your pages printed. I could have easily spent that much in just the paper and elements alone if I were doing it by hand at the table. Anyway, here’s my first attempt:
